Ukroboronprom Debunks Information About Defects In MiG-21 Fighter Jets Supplied To Croatia

The Ukroboronprom state military industrial concern gas refuted the information about mechanical failure allegedly found in MiG-21 fighting jets supplied to Croatia by the Ukrspecexport state-run arms export company (Kyiv) spread by Hungarian and Russian media.

The Ukroboronprom has said this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"As of today we have not received any official complaint or a statement of reclamation from the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Croatia," the company said.

At the same time, the concern attributes the dissemination of this false information to a tender for an overhaul of ten Mi-171SH helicopters invited by the Ministry of Defense of Croatia in which Ukraine and Russia competed.

According to the report, the Ukrainian side represented at the tender by the Ukrspecexport provided a full package of documents and representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Croatia checked the capabilities of one of Ukrainian industrial defense enterprises to perform the overhaul.

But, despite the fact that the Ukrainian enterprise considerably outmatches the Russian company with experience in performing repairs of the above aircraft, and despite the sanctions of the EU imposed on the RF, the Ministry of Defense of Croatia decided to sign a contract with the Russian entity, the Helicopters of Russia.

Earlier Hungarian-based Jutarnji List media, citing a source from the Ministry of Defense of Croatia, published the information stating that Croatia intended to return to Ukraine four broken MiG-21 supplied by Ukrspecexport and to replace them with other jets backed by the state guarantee.

This information was re-published by a number of other Russian media.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ukrspecexport and the Ukroboronservice form part of the Ukroboronprom state military industrial concern.

Ukroboronprom was created in 2010 and currently it comprises 134 entities of the industrial defense sector.
