ISW analyzes how destruction of weapons depots near Toropets will affect russian army

ISW, Institute for the Study of War, ISW report, Toropets

The destruction by the Armed Forces of Ukraine of a warehouse of missiles and ammunition near the city of Toropets will force the russian command to rebuild the logistical support system of the russian army.

This is stated in the russian Offensive Campaign Assessment by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) as of September 22, 2024, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Analysts have confirmed Estonian intelligence data that the liquidation of the warehouse in Toropets will affect russian operations in the coming months.

At the same time, ISW notes that it is unclear whether the warehouse contained the destroyed 30,000 tons of explosives in the form of both rockets and artillery ammunition. However, analysts are sure that the attack destroyed significant stocks of russian material resources.

Analysts of the Institute also believe that further Ukrainian attacks on russian rear logistics facilities on the territory of russia will increase the operational pressure on the russian military.

"ISW continues to assess that continued Ukrainian strikes against rear Russian logistics facilities within Russia will generate wider operational pressures on the Russian military, including forcing the Russian military command to reorganize and disperse support and logistics systems within Russia to mitigate the impact of such strikes," the ISW report says.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Estonian intelligence said that as a result of a Ukrainian drone attack on a warehouse in Toropets, Tver Oblast of the russian federation, near the Estonian border, the aggressor state lost a supply of ammunition for 2-3 months.

On the night of September 18, the 107th arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate in the city of Toropets, Tver Oblast, was attacked by Ukrainian drones.

According to available information, the russians stored Iskander-M and KN-23 ballistic missiles near Toropets. There were also ammunition for rocket artillery and mortars.
