Iranian president condemns russia's aggression against Ukraine

Iran, Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian

Iran's new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, said during a roundtable with journalists during his participation in the UN General Assembly in New York that he seeks negotiations with the West over russia's war against Ukraine, which he condemns as "aggression". His words are quoted by The Guardian on Monday, September 23.

Pezeshkian said that during his presidency, no short-range missiles were sent from Iran to russia for use in Ukraine. According to U.S. intelligence, the contract to send the missiles was probably signed last summer by his predecessor, Ebrahim Raisi.

"We are ready to sit down at the negotiating table with Europeans and Americans to conduct dialogue and negotiations. We have never approved Russian aggression against Ukrainian territory," Pezeshkian said.

The Iranian president also noted that Iran does not support what he called russia's aggression in Ukraine, and that the borders of the countries should be respected, the newspaper quotes.

We will remind, in July Masoud Pezeshkian won in the second round of the presidential elections of Iran.

These elections were called after the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 17, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that since he took office, the country has not transferred weapons to russia.

On September 6, The Wall Street Journal wrote that the United States warned its allies that Iran had transferred ballistic missiles to russia.

In August, Reuters reported that dozens of russian soldiers had arrived in Iran for training on Iranian missiles.
