Source: Brussels To Host Ukraine, Russia, EU Gas Transit Negotiations September 12-13

Brussels (Belgium) will host the trilateral negotiations among Ukraine, the Russia, and the European Union on gas transit via Ukraine on September 12-13.

A source said this to Ukrainian News Agency.

According to the source, participating in the negotiations will be Alexander Medvedev, deputy CEO of Gazprom, Olena Zerkal, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for European Integration.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Russia is ready to extend the gas transit contract with Ukraine should the dispute between the Naftogaz of Ukraine national joint-stock company and the Russia's gas monopoly Gazprom at the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC; Sweden) is settled.

President Petro Poroshenko said Ukraine was ready to guarantee reliability of the gas transit to Europe.

On July 6, 2018, Naftogaz filed a claim at the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (Sweden) on Friday, asking the Arbitration Institute to review the transit tariff under its gas contract with the Gazprom gas company (Russia). Naftogaz of Ukraine is claiming USD 11.58 billion, excluding interest.

On February 28, 2018, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce ruled in favor of Naftogaz of Ukraine in a dispute in which it claimed USD 4.63 billion from Gazprom as compensation for failing to deliver the agreed volumes of natural for transportation on transit through Ukraine.

Gazprom will have to make a net payment of USD 2.56 billion to Naftogaz of Ukraine since the arbitration institute previously ordered Naftogaz of Ukraine to pay Gazprom for gas supply arrears.
