On Monday, Ukraine has assumed its three-year membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko announced this on Twitter, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Having completed its mission as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, today Ukraine starts its three-year membership in the UN Human Rights Council," he wrote.

President Poroshenko says Ukraine's priority will be the questions of protection of human rights worldwide, including in Crimea annexed by the Russian Federation and in occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in November 2017, the United Nations provided Ukraine with 190 recommendations on improving the situation with human rights.
