The delivery of Western F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine will help deprive russia of superiority in the skies over the Black Sea.

The Commander of the Navy of Ukraine, Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa has stated this, Reuters reports.

"F-16s with the right armaments will be able to push away Russian warplanes. The northwestern part of the Black Sea, particularly the corridor for civilian ships, will be almost 100% secure," he said.

Neizhpapa noted that Ukraine would like to expand its shipping corridor, which covers only sea transportation from the three main Odesa ports, to include the ports of Mykolaiv and Kherson, but this is impossible. The reason is russia's control over the Kinburn Spit, which juts out along this route.

In some areas, civilian vessels are accompanied by patrol boats to help provide protection against mines, and air defense means provide cover for both ports and corridors.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 6, the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Kajsa Ollongren, said that the Netherlands plans to send F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine in the fall, after Denmark, which plans to send them to Ukraine in the summer.

10 Ukrainian servicemen completed F-16 fighter maintenance training in the Netherlands.

On June 3, the spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Illia Yevlash, said that Ukraine needs 150 F-16 fighters to defend against russian invaders.
