Cabinet approves food security strategy until 2027

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the food security strategy until 2027.

This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to the report, the food security strategy of Ukraine until 2027 contains three key goals:

- Filling the market of agricultural products. Support for producers, in particular organic products, is provided. Gradual substitution of imports and restoration of food industry enterprises.

- Ensuring availability of food for all population groups of Ukraine. Reduction of the share of food in the structure of spending by Ukrainians.

- Strengthening food security. Filling state reserves with products, creating a food security monitoring system, priority demining of agricultural land, adaptation to climate change, and more.

At the same time, the achievement of the goals defined by the strategy is envisaged in two stages:

- the first stage (2024 - 2026) - formation and implementation of measures to support producers, aimed at the development of branches of the agro-industrial complex, in particular, producers of organic products;

- the second stage (during 2027) - restoration of food industry enterprises at the level of united territorial communities, administrative-territorial units and the state as a whole.

It is noted that the implementation of the strategy will provide an opportunity to form a system of food security of the state resistant to threats; create conditions for food independence of the country and sustainable development of the agricultural sector of the economy; ensure full access of the population to safe food products in sufficient quantity.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in 2023, Ukrainian farmers exported products worth almost USD 22 billion.
