The Zmiivska thermal power plant, which is incorporated in the Centrenergo state energy-generating company, suspended operation to economize coal on April 6, 2017.

The press service of the Ukrenergo national power company confirmed this information to Ukrainian News Agency.

"It was shut down yesterday [April 6]," the press service said.

The Zmiivska TPP has been suspended to economize coal.

Only one power unit of Zmiivska TPP had been operating before the decision.

On April 5, 2017, the warehouses of the Zmiivska TPP had 52,600 tons of anthracite coal, 23,700 tons of gas flame coal.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 5, 2017, the Trypilska thermal power plant in Kyiv region, which is incorporated in the Centrenergo state energy-generating company, suspended operation to economize anthracite coal.

On April 5, 2017, the Prydniprovska thermal power plant (Dnipropetrovsk Region), which is incorporated in the DTEK Dniproenergo, has suspended operation to accumulate its coal reserves.

The Centrenergo incorporates the Vuhlehirska thermal power plant (Donetsk region), Ukrainka-based Trypilska thermal power plant (Kyiv region) and Komsomolske-based Zmiivska thermal power plant (Kharkiv region).

Installed at the company's thermoelectric power plants are 23 power units with capacities ranging from 175 to 800 MW, of which 18 units are powered by coal and five are designed to be powered by gas/oil.

The State owns 78.289% of the power generating company through the State Property Fund.

On February 15, 2017, the Cabinet of Ministers introduced the state of emergency in the energy sector, which among others envisages possibility of rolling blackouts.

The state of emergency took effect on February 17, 2017.
