United States Introduces Sanctions On 2 Russian Military Companies

The United States has imposed restrictions on export and import operations with products of two Russian military industrial companies.

The Ukrainian News Agency learnt this from data published in the U.S. Federal Register.

According to the report, the restrictions were imposed against the Navotor Design Bureau joint-stock company and the Titan-Barrikady federal scientific-production enterprise.

The two enterprises were engaged in designing and production for the Russian Defense Ministry of winged missiles and transportation and launch systems with engagement range exceeding the limits set forth in an agreement on medium range nuclear arms (the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty of 1987 between the United States and the USSR and later its successor states).

Thus, the United States authorities concluded that the above Russian companies were engaged in the activity that poses a risk to the national security and contradicts foreign political objectives pursued by the United States.

Export of products of the aforesaid companies was put on a sanctions list, which requires obtaining a special permit to export/import the products.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in December, the U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson stated that sanctions against Russia would remain in force until it returns the Crimea peninsula annexed from Ukraine and withdraws troops from Donbas allowing Ukraine to restore full control over its eastern territory.
