UK Intelligence Tells Who Initiative Will Move To In Coming Months At Front

The UK Defence Intelligence believes that in the coming months the initiative at the front will go to whichever side manages to generate a credible, committed force for offensive operations. This is reported in the regular issue of the intelligence bulletin published by the UK Ministry of Defence.

In particular, the summary states that last week there were only minimal changes in territorial control along the front line.

In the Donbas, after small offensives from the beginning of August, Russian troops approached the outskirts of the city of Bakhmut, but have not yet broken through to the village.

Russia did not make serious efforts to advance in the Zaporizhzhia or Kharkiv directions.

In the southwest, neither Ukrainian nor Russian troops advanced on the Kherson front line. However, increasingly frequent explosions behind Russian lines are likely to put strain on Russian logistics and airbases in the south, British intelligence said.

"It is unlikely that the situation will significantly change in the next week. Russian forces are, for now, probably only prepared to undertake limited local assaults, rarely involving more than a company of troops," the review said.
