Rada Extends Martial Law And Mobilization Until August 18

The Verkhovna Rada extended the period of martial law and general mobilization from May 20 for 90 days, i.e. until August 18.

A total of 324 MPs voted for bill 9259, with the minimum required 226, and 333 MPs voted for 9260, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Bill 9259 provides for the approval of Presidential Decree No. 254 of May 1 "On the extension of the period of martial law in Ukraine", according to which the period of martial law is extended from 5:30 a.m. on May 20, 2023 for 90 days.

Bill 9260 provides for the approval of Presidential Decree No. 255 dated May 1 "On the extension of the period of general mobilization", according to which the period of general mobilization is extended from May 20 for 90 days.

In the explanatory note to both bills, it is emphasized that their adoption will contribute to the adoption of adequate measures aimed at repelling Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposes to the Verkhovna Rada to extend the period of martial law and general mobilization from May 20 for 90 days, i.e. until August 18.

On February 7, the Verkhovna Rada extended the period of martial law and general mobilization from February 19 for 90 days, i.e. until May 20, 2023.

On February 24, 2022, the Verkhovna Rada approved the introduction of martial law by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in connection with the start of the war by Russia and the announcement and conduct of general mobilization.
