Amount of cash in circulation up 4.8% to UAH 800.9 billion in H1

In the first half of the year, the amount of cash in circulation increased by 4.8% to UAH 800.9 billion.

This follows from the NBU data, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

As of July 1, 2024, there were UAH 800.9 billion in cash circulation in Ukraine.

This is UAH 36.5 billion or 4.8% more than at the beginning of 2024 (as of January 1, 2024 – UAH 764.4 billion).

Therefore, the rate of growth of cash in circulation this year remains low and is primarily due to seasonal factors. After all, the demand for cash traditionally picks up in the summer.

In addition, power outages caused by russia's attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure encourage citizens to have some cash on hand.

A total of 2.7 billion banknotes are in cash circulation for the total amount of UAH 793.5 billion, as well as 14.7 billion coins (excluding commemorative and investment coins) in the amount of UAH 7.3 billion.

On July 1 of this year, one resident of Ukraine had 65 banknotes and 181 payment exchangeable and circulating coins (as of January 1, 2024 – 66 and 177, respectively).

UAH-500 banknotes and 10-kopeck coins are the most in circulation in cash (28.3% and 28.1% of the total amount in circulation, respectively).

The least are UAH-50 banknotes and UAH-10 coins (4.5% and 1.6% of the total amount in circulation, respectively).

The dynamics of the volume of banknotes and coins in circulation show that the highest rate of growth in the first half of 2024 fell on banknotes with a denomination of UAH 1,000 and coins with a denomination of UAH 10.

Their number in circulation increased by almost 1.2 and 1.1 times, respectively, compared to the beginning of this year.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2023, the amount of cash in circulation in Ukraine increased by 6.7%, or by UAH 48.3 billion, and as of January 1, 2024, amounted to UAH 764.4 billion.
