Official London cannot allow Ukraine to use Storm Shadow for the sole reason – media

Great Britain did not allow Ukraine to use Storm Shadow missiles to attack russia.

As The Times notes, the British government's policy on the use of weapons provided by the Ukrainian army has become so muddled that even President Volodymyr Zelenskyy felt embarrassed during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer this month.

Starmer expressed his willingness to relax restrictions on the use of Storm Shadow, and Zelenskyy welcomed such an offer. However, later, the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain stated that it had not actually given such permission. According to The Times sources in the Ministry of Defense, before making such a decision, Great Britain had to coordinate it with France, which, together with Britain produces these missiles and is an important NATO ally.

Great Britain cannot make unilateral decisions on issues that could cause an escalation of the conflict with russia. It remains unclear whether there is a legal basis for obtaining permission from France and other allies.

One of the sources said that Great Britain has already sent inquiries to its allies and is waiting for their response before discussing this issue with Ukraine.

Ben Barry, a senior fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, said allies are concerned that the mistaken use of Storm Shadow missiles could lead to random strikes on civilians, giving russia an excuse to escalate the conflict.
