U.S. Department of State responds to Ukraine's actions in Kursk Oblast

United States, AFU, Kursk oblast, Vedant Patel

The United States supports the advance of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast, as this operation is aimed at self-defense.

Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the United States Department of State, Vedant Patel, said this at a briefing in Washington on Monday, August 12.

According to him, the United States is focused on ensuring that Ukraine has the necessary weapons to defend against full-scale russian aggression.

"As for the strikes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by American weapons deep into russian territory, the White House still does not give permission for this, despite the request of the Ukrainian authorities," Patel noted.

He emphasized that "nothing has changed in the policy of the United States regarding strikes across the border."

Answering a question about how Washington assesses the advancement of the Defense Forces in the Kursk Oblast, the representative of the U.S. Department of State said that Ukraine itself will talk about its operations but added that the United States supports the Armed Forces.

He emphasized that Putin has launched an illegal invasion of Ukraine. If he doesn't like the way the country is defending itself, he can simply withdraw the troops and end the war.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held another meeting of the stake, during which it was confirmed for the first time that the operation in the Kursk Oblast is being carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was also noted that the Ukrainian army currently controls about 1,000 square kilometers of territory.

In his evening address, Zelenskyy explained that the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast is a security issue for Ukraine - the liberation of the border area, which is constantly under fire from the enemy. At the same time, according to him, Kursk is the "catastrophe of the war" of the russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

Meanwhile, two American senators — Republican Lindsey Graham and Democrat Richard Blumenthal — supported the military operation of the AFU in the Kursk Oblast.
