Air defense forces down 29 out of 30 cruise missiles

Overnight into May 18, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) repelled several waves of Russian attacks and destroyed 29 enemy cruise missiles.

This follows from a statement by the press service of the AFU Air Force.

From 9 p.m., May 17, to 5:30 a.m., May 18, 2023, the enemy launched several waves of missile attacks from different directions. The enemy launched 30 sea, air, and land-based cruise missiles.

In particular, the enemy fired Twenty-two Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles from strategic aircraft (two Tu-160s and eight Tu-95s); six Kalibr cruise missiles from the ships deployed in the Black Sea; and two Iskander-K cruise missiles from ground-based operational-tactical missile systems.

Air Force units, in cooperation with other components of the AFU, destroyed 29 cruise missiles.

They also downed two UAVs, Shahed-136/131, and two reconnaissance UAVs of operational-tactical level, were also shot down.

"Once again, we remind you that even with the successful operation of air defense, the fragments of missiles shot down in the sky will definitely return to the ground and pose a serious threat to people's lives. During an air alert, follow the safety rules. Take care of yourself and your relatives. Let's beat the enemy together! Together to victory!" reported the Air Force.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, overnight into May 16, the enemy launched a massive missile attack on Kyiv. The enemy used cruise and ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to the AFU Air Force Command, the air defense systems were able to shoot down all the missiles and drones launched by the occupiers.
