Air Force explain why they could not down all missiles over Kyiv

The russians launch missiles and drones at extremely low altitudes, which makes it difficult to shoot them down.

Yurii Ihnat, the former spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated this in an interview with Telegraf.

"As many as they could - as many were shot down. Believe me, no one sat back and no one missed this situation. We "led" them from the sea, but, unfortunately, such disappointing results. However, the results are there - 33 out of 44 targets were destroyed," Ihnat said.

He clarified that the percentage of shooting down enemy missiles in this case does not differ much from the indicators that were earlier, although not in the capital of Ukraine.

"Missiles on Kyiv used to be shot down almost 100 percent. It's just that everyone is used to the fact that Kyiv is heavily covered, that nothing will fly here. But 75% (of shooting down, — ed.) for missiles is a rather high percentage, with the means that we have," Ihnat noted.

According to him, missiles and drones will fly in any case, because the russian occupiers launch them at extremely low altitudes, which makes it difficult to detect and shoot them down.

"Now technologies are being improved, thermal radar traps are being set, maybe there is something else there. We cannot know completely what they have invented. And, of course, even Western complexes have certain difficulties with this. When a missile flies, we see it alone on radars, and there may be a group of missiles: two or three, as one point. That is why such a situation can happen," Ihnat stressed.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on the morning of July 8, air defense was operating in Kyiv due to a massive missile attack by the aggressor state. Falling debris was recorded in 7 districts: in Solomyanskyi, Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Holosiyivskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi districts. Children's hospital Okhmatdyt, houses, an enterprise, an office building were damaged.

In Kyiv, the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital was damaged by russian shelling.

It was also reported that during russia's combined missile attack on Ukraine on July 8, air defense shot down 30 of the 38 missiles launched.
