Klitschko declares impossibility of any territorial concessions without holding referendum

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko believes that in the coming months, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will have to make difficult decisions that could lead to his political suicide. In his opinion, in the case of a territorial compromise with the aggressor country of the russian federation, a referendum will have to be held.

Klitschko said this in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

The publication quotes Klitschko's words about Zelenskyy, where he reflects on the future of Ukraine. He believes that just like the war in the coming years, territorial compromises will be difficult.

"The coming months will be very difficult for Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Will he have to continue the war with new deaths and destruction, or consider the possibility of a territorial compromise with Putin? And if so, what pressure will there be from America in the event of Trump's victory? And how to explain to the country, that we must give up pieces of our territory that cost the lives of thousands of our fighting heroes?

Whatever step he takes, our president risks political suicide. Let's be honest, we have to win the war, but the situation is getting more and more difficult, it depends on the help coming from the allies, it would be a nightmare if we have to fight another two years...

Zelenskyy will probably have to resort to a referendum, I do not think that he will be able to reach such painful and important agreements on his own, without popular legitimation.

The way out for him could be the creation of a government of national unity, like what happened in Israel after the Hamas attack on October 7. However, I am not sure that he is ready to give up the power centralized in his hands."

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in January, Ukraine and Switzerland began preparations for the Global Peace Summit.

On March 27, the German publication Die Welt reported that Europe is discussing freezing the war in Ukraine in 2024.

Turkiye also offered Zelenskyy and putin to freeze the war until 2040.
