Raising taxes will not solve deficit issues, but will create additional problems - Razumkov

Dmytro Razumkov, tax increase, military levy

Dmytro Razumkov, the former head of the Verkhovna Rada and head of the inter-factional association Smart Politics, is convinced that raising taxes will not solve the deficit issue, but will create additional problems.

The MP told Ukrainian News Agency about this.

"Increasing taxes will not solve the issues, but will create additional problems within the state in terms of socio-economics, in terms of justice, in terms of the division of society into the government and the Ukrainian people," he believes.

According to him, raising taxes will not solve the issues and tasks that the government is announcing today.

"According to their calculations, this (increasing the military levy) will give about UAH 245 billion. According to their own estimates, the hole is more than UAH 560 billion. According to experts, it is more than UAH 700 billion. That is, the issue has not been resolved and will not be resolved by raising taxes. Even international partners are now saying that raising taxes is not the way that will allow Ukraine to get out of the current economic crisis," Razumkov noted.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, does not rule out increasing the VAT rate instead of the military levy.
