West Air Command’s IRIS-T shoots down 2 cruise missiles with 1 shot - Defense Express

The German IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile system in service with the Armed Forces shot down two russian cruise missiles with one shot.

The West Air Command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has announced this.

"At this complex, we have already destroyed 45 air targets. This is in six months. The most effective anti-aircraft battle is seven destroyed cruise missiles for one enemy missile-aircraft strike. We had two such cases. We use one missile on one target. That is, the efficiency is one hundred percent. We even managed to destroy six enemy missiles with five of ours. The Russian missile exploded after being hit by our missile and destroyed another with its debris," said the battery commander, Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr.

Despite the fact that the West Air Command did not disclose the type of air defense system, Defense Express analyzed the published photo and came to the conclusion that it is an IRIS-T.

"With the greatest share of probability, we are talking about an IRIS-T SLM, but it is quite possible that the IRIS-T SLS short-range complex also has the same command post in its structure," the publication says.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Germany handed over a new aid package to Ukraine, which included an IRIS-T air defense system.
