One of NATO's most important military bases, Geilenkirchen in Germany, was put on high alert due to intelligence warnings of a potential sabotage attack by russian agents.

It was reported by the Financial Times on Friday, August 23.

One of NATO's most sensitive military bases has been put on high alert following an intelligence warning of a potential sabotage attack by russian agents. On Thursday evening, all secondary personnel of the base, where the Alliance's Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft are based, were sent home to strengthen the security of the base. This is the second such incident at a military facility in Germany in less than two weeks.

A representative of the base, located near the Dutch border, said that the main military operations will not be affected and that NATO will continue to fly AWACS aircraft, which provide the Alliance with vital early warning information and intelligence about enemy military activity at long range.

“The NATO Airborne Early Warning and Control Force has increased security at NATO Geilenkirchen Air Base. This is based on intelligence indicating a potential threat. The safety of our personnel is a top priority. Critical operations at the air base continue as planned," said spokesman Donny Demmers.

Military facilities across Germany have been warned of the dangers of russian sabotage. According to Western special services, russian spies and their proxies are planning to "increase the degree of tension".

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 20, fragments of an unmanned aerial vehicle of the Shahed type were discovered in Romania in one of the border areas.
