US President Joe Biden called his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day, confirmed the allocation of a new military aid package and expressed unwavering support for the people of Ukraine.

This was reported on the official portal of the White House and by Volodymyr Zelenskyy on his personal Telegram page.

Biden noted that during the conversation with Zelenskyy, he expressed America's unwavering support for the people of Ukraine, and also confirmed that Ukraine will remain a "free, sovereign and independent country."

He added that the US will announce a new package of military aid to Ukraine by the end of Thursday.

"The package includes air defense missiles to protect Ukraine's critical infrastructure; anti-drone equipment and anti-tank missiles to protect against russian tactics on the changing battlefield; and ammunition for front-line soldiers and mobile missile systems to protect them," Biden listed.

The American President also mentioned the sanctions introduced against almost 400 legal entities and individuals who contribute to russia's illegal war.

The media previously wrote that the new package of US military aid will contain equipment worth up to USD 125 million, which will be delivered from the warehouses of the American army.

In a post on the social network, Zelenskyy also reported on the conversation with Biden, during which he thanked for the warm greetings and unwavering American support.

"In particular, I thank you for the adoption by the United States today of another package of sanctions against the fuel and energy and metallurgical sectors, the financial sphere, and the russian military-industrial complex. The sanctions pressure on russia must continue to increase," the President of Ukraine emphasized.

Zelenskyy also noted the allocation of a new package of defense support from the United States. According to him, Ukraine critically needs the supply of weapons from the announced packages, in particular additional air defense systems for the reliable protection of cities, communities and critical infrastructure.

"Our further bilateral contacts have been coordinated," Zelenskyy said.
