Energoatom plans to build new nuclear power plant in Cherkasy Region

The Energoatom national nuclear energy generating company plans to build four new power units of the Chyhyryn nuclear power plant in the town of Orbita, Cherkasy Region.

The press service of the company stated this in on Tuesday, August 27.

Energoatom noted that by 2050, Ukraine wants to increase the capacity of domestic nuclear generation, so they are currently looking for new sites for construction.

"The most promising of them is Chyhyryn, near the town of Orbita in the Cherkasy Region. Four new power units are planned to be built there using AP1000 technology. The first step in the implementation of this project has already been taken," the message says.

Members of the Chyhyryn City Council passed a decision regarding the allocation of land plots for the permanent use of Energoatom.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 23, Energoatom put into operation a power unit of one of the nuclear power plants ahead of schedule.

Ukrenergo announced that plans for preparing for winter will have to be adjusted due to the impact on the energy sector.
