Russian army again trying to surround AFU in Pokrovsk Axis - ISW

Russian troops are currently conducting two tactical operations as part of the offensive on Pokrovsk and are trying to surround Ukrainian positions between Myrnohrad and Hrodivka.

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The first tactical operation takes place along the line Novohrodivka-Hrodivka to the east of Pokrovsk with the aim of capturing Myrnohrad and further advancing to the outskirts of Pokrovsk.

The second tactical operation is carried out along the Selydove-Ukrayinsk-Hirnyk line southeast of Pokrovsk. Its purpose is to expand the russian group in the direction of Pokrovsk and eliminate weak points through which Ukrainian troops can launch counterattacks.

The russian command probably views these operations as preparatory stages for a further intensive offensive on Pokrovsk.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated on August 29 that the fiercest fighting in the direction of Pokrovsk continues on the eastern outskirts of Hrodivka (east of Pokrovsk), southwest of Hrodivka near Krasnyi Yar, within the boundaries of Novohrodivka (southeast of Pokrovsk) and directly east of Selydove near Mykhaylivka (southeast of Pokrovsk).

During the last days, ISW recorded the successes of russian forces in these areas.

Recently, russian forces surrounded Ukrainian positions southeast of Pokrovsk along the Karliv Reservoir, forcing Ukrainian units to withdraw from some positions in the area.

Russian forces are likely trying to achieve similar success by encircling Ukrainian positions between Myrnohrad and Hrodivka, although it is unclear whether they will be able to maintain a rapid pace of advance through the large city of Myrnohrad and its environs.

We will remind, on August 29, analysts of the Ukrainian OSINT project DeepState stated that the russian invaders were allegedly able to get close to the city of Selydove in the west of the Donetsk Region. According to analysts, the situation in the area of the city is "difficult and uncontrolled".

Last week, DeepState analysts also reported on russian successes in Novohrodivka, north of Selydove.

The day before, it became known that the city was occupied by the russians, who are now trying to move north and northeast, in the direction of the cities of Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk.
