"Great start". Zelenskyy congratulates Ukrainian athletes on their first victories at Paralympics in Paris

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Ukrainian Paralympians on winning medals on the first day of competition at the 17th Summer Paralympic Games in Paris.

"The first victories of our Paralympians in Paris. Ukraine has two silver and two bronze medals in swimming," Zelenskyy wrote on Facebook.

He reminded that Anton Kol won silver in 100-meter backstroke. Iryna Poyda won a silver medal in the 200-meter freestyle. Hanna Hontar is a bronze medalist in 50-meter freestyle swimming. Oleksandr Komarov has a bronze medal in 200-meter freestyle swimming.

"Great start! Every victory of our athletes inspires our entire country. Keep it up!" the President emphasized.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, 140 Ukrainians will compete in 17 sports at the Paralympics in Paris, which will be held from August 28 to September 8. The largest number of Ukrainian Paralympians will be represented in swimming (37). In addition, more than 23% of the members of our national team are debutants of the Paralympic Games.
