Russian shelling on September 2 damaged one of the two external overhead lines through which the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (Zaporizhzhia NPP) receives power from the Ukrainian power system to meet its own needs.

This is stated in the message of the Energoatom national nuclear energy generating company in the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Currently, the Zaporizhzhia NPP is connected to the Ukrainian power system by only one power transmission line.

"In the event of damage to the second line, an emergency situation will arise due to the loss of external power to the pumps that cool the active areas of the reactors and the fuel storage pools of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Ukrainian specialists cannot yet inspect the place of damage and start repairing the line, because there is a real threat of repeated shelling of the site by russian troops. The line will be repaired as soon as the safety of the specialists is guaranteed," the message reads.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on August 23, power engineers restored the power supply line of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which was damaged on August 22 due to russian shelling.
