NBU calls statements about blocking cards for exceeding income limit fake

NBU, National Bank of Ukraine, cards, payment cards, restrictions on card transfers of individuals, P2P transfers, C2C transfers, transfers of individuals

The National Bank of Ukraine currently does not plan to set any additional restrictions on the accounts of bank clients.

This is indicated in the statement of the NBU on Facebook on Monday, September 9.

The National Bank noted that today some media and Telegram channels published information that the NBU allegedly "wants to set limits that will be equal to the income of bank clients and if the turnover is higher than the specified amount of income, then the accounts will be blocked."

"This information does not correspond to reality! Banks, payment and financial institutions continue to operate and carry out due diligence of their clients exclusively within the framework of the legislation on financial monitoring and the requirements of the NBU," the NBU said.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, starting October 1, 2024, the National Bank temporarily, for six months, sets a limit of UAH 150,000 per month for card-to-card (also known as P2P, C2C) transfers of individuals.

From October, the National Bank will start creating a register of compromised cards and "untrustworthy" merchants.
