Lithuania to prepare mass evacuation plan by October

Lithuania, mass evacuation plan, evacuation plan, mass evacuation

In Lithuania, a national mass evacuation plan will be developed by the beginning of October, as the country is "at the forefront" among the countries of the region.

The Minister of Interior Affairs of Lithuania Agnė Bilotaitė has stated this, Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) reported.

"Each self-government has its own evacuation plan, but it is obvious that we must have a plan on a national scale and be ready to implement it," Bilotaitė said at a press conference.

According to her, civil protection of the population is currently more relevant than ever for the country due to russian aggression against Ukraine.

"The war against Ukraine continues, the countries of our region are subjected to hybrid and disinformation attacks, and sabotage is our new reality. It is important to note that we are at the forefront, so today civilian protection has become a priority on our agenda," the minister emphasized.

Bilotaitė said Lithuania will cooperate with other Baltic countries to strengthen civil defense and will apply for funding from the European Union. The publication noted that in July, the Lithuanian Seimas approved a program to strengthen and develop civil defense, which provides for the creation of new shelters, notification systems, and a special mobile application. It is planned to allocate EUR 285 million for this program.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in June the Seimas of Lithuania approved the conscription of young men to the army after finishing school.
