French billionaire Niel buys lifecell and Datagroup-Volia

The investment company NJJ Capital of the French billionaire Xavier Niel has completed the acquisition of the mobile communications operator lifecell (formerly Astelit) and the fixed Internet provider Datagroup-Volia.

This is stated in the message of the Horizon Capital investment company, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"NJJ Holding, the investment company of Xavier Niel, the founder of Europe's leading telecommunications group iliad, announced the acquisition of the companies Datagrup-Volia, the leader among providers of fixed communication and pay TV in Ukraine, as well as Lifecell, the third largest mobile operator in the country. The deal was completed following the fulfillment of all conditions precedent, including the receipt of necessary regulatory approvals. NJJ Consortium, Horizon Capital, an American private investment company, led by Olena Kosharna, together with Mykhailo Shelemba, director general of Datagrup-Volia, will merge Datagrup-Volia and Lifecell to create a converged telecommunications platform aimed at expansion, growth and investment,"the message says.

According to the report, the next important stage for the joint platform is the signing of documents and the provision of a joint financial package of USD 435 million provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in July, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) allowed the company of French billionaire Niel to buy lifecell.

Previously, AMCU allowed Niel's company to buy Datagroup-Volia.

Niel's NJJ Capital plans to merge Datagroup-Volia and lifecell.
