Ministry of Environment preparing reserve water resources in case of water pollution in Kyiv

Currently, pollution in the Desna River has moved below the city of Chernihiv to the village of Kolychivka, Chernihiv Region. In Kyiv, there are currently no risks of deterioration of water quality near drinking water intakes.

This is reported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.

The Ministry is cooperating with Kyivvodokanal to develop an action plan in case of water quality deterioration, but currently there are no such risks. Pollution of Desna accumulates in the area of ​​Chernihiv and the village of Kolychivka, but there is no unpleasant smell or mass dying of fish.

Recently, 17.5 tons of dead fish have already been collected in the Chernihiv Region. The Ministry is considering the possibility of installing aerators to saturate Desna with oxygen, but there are currently no risks.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, an action plan is being prepared in Kyiv in case of deterioration of water quality due to pollution of the Desna River.

On August 29, the State Commission on Technological and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations decided to extend the ban on swimming and fishing in the Seim and Desna Rivers and instructed to localize and eliminate pollution on these rivers.
