The russian national team will not be allowed to participate in the 2026 Olympic Games unless there are some drastic changes.

This opinion was expressed by the deputy commissioner of the NHL, Bill Daly, who participated in the negotiations regarding the return of the players of the League to the Olympic Games, The Athletic reports.

"If, of course, there are no drastic changes, Russia was not at the 2024 Olympics. Russia was not allowed to participate there, and I think the same principle will be at the 2026 Olympics," Daly said, adding that he personally has the feeling that the relevant decision has already been made, although not announced.

At the same time, the russian national team can play in the World Cup organized by the League.

"We have not yet thought about the participation of the Russian national team in the World Cup, the situation is changing quickly. We are not ready to rule anything out yet," said Bill Daly.

It is expected that the final decision on the participation of the national team of the aggressor country should be made in March 2025.

As previously reported, the President of the International Ice Hockey Federation, Luc Tardif, stated that athletes from russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in international tournaments held under the auspices of the Federation while the war in Ukraine continues.
