Second level of protection is built only at Ukrenergo substations, no power plant has it - Kudrytskyi

Ukrenergo, protective structures, Shaheds, power facilities, power plants, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi

Former head of the Ukrenergo national energy company, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, states that the second level of protection is built only at Ukrenergo substations, while it is not built at any other facilities, in particular, at power plants.

He told about this in an interview with Economic Pravda, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"The first level of protection is from debris. The second is engineering structures that protect equipment from Shaheds, the third - from missiles... It is important to say that the first is really 100% built, the second is built, but only at Ukrenergo substations, it is not built on any other objects. For example, on power plants," Kudrytskyi said.

At the same time, he noted that other energy facilities, vulnerable to direct hits of Shaheds, were to be protected by the second level.

"Not only Ukrenergo substations were to be protected by the second level, this is important to understand. Other objects vulnerable to direct hits by the Shaheds were also to be protected by the second level. I cannot say for sure whether it is all 200 or just a few from this list be protected by a smaller number. But it is absolutely certain that the facilities where there are at least transformers, as in Ukrenergo, should be protected against Shaheds. They have the same transformers, the same distribution devices at Ukrenergo substations. This list can also include, for example, important transit substations of regional power distribution companies or objects of critical infrastructure that are not electricity at all, for example, oil and gas infrastructure," Kudrytskyi said.

As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal reported that the readiness of protective structures at Ukrenergo facilities is more than 85%.
