Former member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Derkach was appointed senator from the Astrakhan Oblast of the aggressor country of russia.

This was reported by the publication Meduza.

According to information, the decree on the appointment of 57-year-old Derkach as a senator was signed by the head of the Astrakhan Oblast, Igor Babushkin, on September 12, but the media drew attention to it only on Sunday, July 15.

It will be recalled that Andrii Derkach was a member of the Verkhovna Rada since 1998. After the start of the full-scale invasion of the aggressor country of russia, he fled Ukraine. In June 2022, the Security Service of Ukraine accused Derkach of working for russian intelligence. He is also on the US sanctions list.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in January 2023, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy terminated the Ukrainian citizenship of Viktor Medvedchuk, Andrii Derkach, Taras Kozak and Renat Kuzmin, who are suspected of treason.

Also in January 2023, the Verkhovna Rada deprived Viktor Medvedchuk, Taras Kozak, Renat Kuzmin and Andrii Derkach and Andrii Aksionov of mandates.
