Naftogaz plans to get through winter only at expense of Ukrainian gas - Chernyshov

The Naftogaz of Ukraine national joint-stock company plans to pass the heating season of 2024/2025 only at the expense of Ukrainian gas, while gas is purchased abroad with a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The chairman of the board of Naftogaz Oleksii Chernyshov announced this on the sidelines of the 20th annual meeting of YES, Interfax Ukraine reports.

"The so-called Emergency Credit Line has existed with the EBRD bank for several years. We use this Emergency Credit Line every year in order to form a certain reserve for possible scenarios, which we also calculate. This reserve actually remains in the customs warehouse of the country and is not imported into the country," he said.

Chernyshov noted that for the company this is a normal technological procedure that it carries out every year, in particular, it was used a year ago.

"Last year we had (the EBRD credit line) EUR 300 million, this year – EUR 200 billion, even less... All the needs of Ukrainian consumers are provided with Ukrainian gas," the chairman of the board emphasized.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Naftogaz started purchasing gas in the European Union in August.

In March, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that Ukraine survived the winter at the expense of its own gas production, and this result was achieved not only due to increased production, but also due to a decrease in gas consumption by industry.

Naftogaz plans to accumulate 13 billion cubic meters of gas in underground gas storage facilities until the heating season of 2024/2025.
