Foreign Minister Sybiha starts his first foreign tour with a visit to Romania

Newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha started his first foreign tour with a visit to Romania.

This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

It is noted that on September 18, at the behest of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Sybiha will pay a working visit to Romania. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will hold bilateral talks with his Romanian colleague Luminița Odobescu and other high-ranking officials.

The key topics of the negotiations in Bucharest will be the further support of Ukraine's defense capabilities and energy stability, the advancement of Ukraine on the way to joining the EU and NATO, the implementation of the Peace Formula, Black Sea security and the protection of the legal rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens in Romania.

The visit to Romania will start Sybiha's regional tour of a number of neighboring countries, which will be his first foreign tour after being appointed to the post.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that this choice of the first foreign tour is a signal of Ukraine's determination to develop a constructive, predictable and mutually beneficial policy of good neighborliness, which is of strategic importance in the context of Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO.

Sybiha announced on the X network that in Romania he met with his Romanian colleague Odobescu to confirm strategic and good-neighborly relations, they discussed energy stability, Black Sea security, military aid, agreed on mutual respect and the best European standards in the protection of national minorities of both countries.

He also met with the Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolacu, they discussed joint border control, defense cooperation, freedom of navigation, agreed to hold a bilateral intergovernmental meeting with the prospect of further involvement of Moldova in a tripartite format.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 5, the Verkhovna Rada appointed First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
