The russian military has mined dams in the Belgorod Oblast (russia).

The spokesman of the Kharkiv operational-tactical group, Colonel Vitalii Sarantsev, announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

According to him, the russians are not only actively building defensive fortifications around Belgorod, but also actively mining general and special purpose hydraulic structures.

"This can be regarded as a "bookmark" for the future - if, for example, the situation changes dramatically and the Russians have to blow up the dams to slow down the advance of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, and it can also be assumed that the Russian Federation is preparing provocations at hydraulic structures in order to blame Ukraine in the future in environmental and humanitarian consequences," said Sarantsev.

He added that similar actions can be used to mobilize the population in the russian federation and divert attention from internal problems.

The spokesperson of the Kharkiv operational-tactical group clarified that the detonation of dams can lead to large-scale floods, inundation of settlements and ecological disaster.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 14, a state of emergency at the regional level was declared in the Belgorod Oblast, and a state of emergency at the federal level was introduced in the region the next day.

Earlier, the IAEA complained about anti-personnel mines in the buffer zone on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP between the internal and external fences of the facility in a closed area inaccessible to the station's operating personnel.

Previously, the russian occupiers remotely mined the north of the Sumy Region with cluster bombs.
