European Union not to forcibly return men of mobilization age to Ukraine

EU, European Union, forced return from abroad, Ylva Johansson

European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson said in an interview with Radio Svoboda that the European Union will not forcibly return men of mobilization age to Ukraine.

Thus, Johansson explained that the EU cannot apply a differentiated approach to Ukrainian citizens who have obtained temporary protection in Europe, based on their age, gender and military duty.

"This is impossible according to the Directive on temporary protection (a document regulating the status of Ukrainian refugees on the territory of the EU)," the European Commissioner noted.

To a clarifying question from journalists, whether the EU would help Ukraine return its men of military age from abroad, Johansson noted that no one will be forcibly expelled from the territory of the European Union.

"We will support those who want to return to Ukraine, and we will discuss with the Ukrainian authorities and the Ukrainian government how to do it in the best way. We will not throw anyone out of the EU," Johansson stressed.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Czech Republic does not plan to forcibly return Ukrainian men of military age.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine plans to create a Ministry for the Return of Ukrainians. At a meeting of the Servant of the People faction on Wednesday, September 4, candidates for the post of minister were discussed.
