Interior Ministry will help Portugal with firefighting plane and rescuers to eliminate large-scale fires in the country

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has promised to provide Portugal with a firefighting plane and rescuers to fight large-scale fires in the country.

This was said by the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko at a meeting with the Ambassador of Portugal, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

On behalf of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Klymenko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Portuguese Republic to Ukraine António Vasco Alves Machado.

"Portugal is currently suffering from large-scale fires that have engulfed the central and northern parts of the country. Unfortunately, there are killed and injured people. The heat and gusty wind make it difficult to extinguish the fire. So I offered Mr. Ambassador help from Ukrainian rescuers. The State Emergency Service has a specialized firefighting aircraft and trained specialists for work in such conditions," the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

According to him, during the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian rescuers gained unique experience of working in emergency situations, so they are ready to help Ukraine's partners in trouble.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Portugal allocated EUR 100 million for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine within the framework of the Czech Republic's initiative. Portugal has extended temporary protection for Ukrainians for another 10 months.
