The russian state corporation Rosatom reported the emergency shutdown of one of the power units at the Rostov nuclear power plant (NPP). Due to this, restrictions on electricity consumption were introduced in the southern regions of russia.

This was reported by the russian propaganda agency RIA Novosti with reference to Rosatom.

The shutdown of the power unit of the Rostov NPP occurred due to the activation of automation due to the malfunction of the turbogenerator.

Rosatom stated that due to the malfunction, the radiation background at the Rostov NPP is normal.

Due to the accident at the Rostov NPP, the Ministry of Energy of the russian federation imposed a limit on energy consumption of 1.5 GW in the southern regions of the russian federation. Later, the volume of restrictions was reduced to 500 MW.

As the agency writes, against the background of the accident at the Rostov NPP, temporary power outages were introduced in populated areas on the territory of occupied Crimea.

It is known that there is no electricity in Sevastopol, Yalta, Alushta, Feodosia and other populated areas of Feodosia.

There were also problems with electricity in Krasnodar.

The Rostov NPP was commissioned in 2001. The power of the station is 4.071 MW.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 1, a large-scale power outage occurred in the russian city of Belgorod and settlements in the Belgorod Oblast.
