Trump trying to change date and place of pre-election debate. Harris refuses

The US presidential candidate from the Republican Party, Donald Trump, offered to hold a debate with the current Vice President from the Democratic Party, Kamala Harris, on the Fox News channel on September 4. In response, the Harris campaign said Trump was trying to cancel the debate, which had already been scheduled for ABC.

This is reported by Reuters.

So, Trump said in a post on the Truth Social social network that the rules will be similar to the first debate with President Joe Biden, who has since dropped his bid for re-election, but this time they will have a "full audience" and take place in the state of Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, Harris said she plans to attend the originally scheduled debate.

"It's interesting how 'anytime, anywhere' turns into 'one specific time, one specific safe space.' I'll be there on September 10th, which he agreed to. I hope to see him there," reads a message by Harris on the X social network.

Meanwhile, Harris' press secretary, Michael Tyler, said Trump was "terrified" and that her campaign would be happy to discuss a follow-up debate after the September 10 debate, which "both campaigns have already agreed to."

On Saturday, Trump said on Truth Social that Harris was "scared to do it" and that he would see her on September 4, "or I won't see her at all."

In a Friday post on Truth Social, Trump said the ABC debate was "cancelled because Biden will no longer be a part of it" and because he himself is in a lawsuit with ABC.

On July 26, the ABC laid out the qualifications, opened a new tab for the debate, but did not name any of the candidates. Those requirements include proof of voter support and access to state ballots by September 3.

Trump's bid for the Fox debate came just after the Democratic National Committee launched an ad campaign mocking him as a "convicted felon afraid of debate" and questioning whether it had anything to do with his stance on abortion.

David Plouffe, an adviser to former President Barack Obama, who recently joined the Harris campaign, wrote on social media: "Right now he seems only comfortable in a cocoon, asking his happy place Fox to hold a Trump rally and call it a debate. Maybe he can handle debate only with someone of his own age."

Trump is 78 years old, and Harris is 59.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, former US President Donald Trump said that he is "absolutely" ready for a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, adding that he would be open to debate with her more than once. At the same time, even then, Trump "left the door open" to abandon plans for a debate on ABC.

Incumbent US Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris has pulled ahead of Republican candidate Donald Trump in four key states. However, this is a small advantage.

Meanwhile, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris will interview six potential vice presidential candidates this weekend.
