British intelligence assesses significance of russian Rostov-on-Don submarine sinking

British intelligence has noted that although the attack by the Defense Forces on August 3 on the russian Black Sea Fleet submarine Rostov-on-Don is most likely the "final chapter" for it, it is unlikely to have a significant impact on russian naval strikes against Ukraine.

This is stated in the intelligence update of the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom.

Thus, analysts noted that on August 3, 2024, as a result of Ukraine's attack on the temporarily occupied Crimea, the KILO-Class submarine of the russian Black Sea Fleet Rostov-on-Don highly likely sank.

"Whilst the attack came in conjunction with a series of drone strikes, the attack in Sevastopol highly likely used the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS)," British intelligence reports.

Also, the intelligence indicates that, contrary to some reports, the submarine was most likely not fully repaired after the previous attack on Crimea in September 2023.

British intelligence added that this latest attack is almost certainly the "final chapter" for the submarine, as it is more cost-effective to build a new submarine than to rebuild and repair it.

"Although this is a significant morale boost to the Ukrainian forces, this is highly unlikely to have any major impact on Russian long range maritime strikes into Ukraine from the Black Sea Fleet," the review summarizes.

Recall that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck a submarine and an anti-aircraft missile complex S-400 of the enemy in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
