Germany did not prohibit Ukraine from using its weapons in Kursk Oblast - Foreign Ministry

Germany, Russia's war against Ukraine, supply of weapons, Kursk oblast, AFU offensive

From the moment of the transfer, the weapons from Germany become the property of Ukraine, so they can be used by Kyiv at its own discretion, the spokesman of the German Ministry of Defense Arno Kollats said at the briefing.

His words are quoted by Ukrinform on Monday, August 12.

Kollats emphasized that international law provides for the conduct of hostilities on the territory of the aggressor country for the protection of its state. According to him, the question of the legality of Ukraine's actions in the Kursk Oblast of the russian federation does not arise for Germany and does not provide for special conditions for the use of the provided weapons.

"After the weapons from Germany were handed over to Ukraine, they already belong to Ukraine, they are Ukrainian weapons... There are no obstacles, so Ukraine is free to choose opportunities. At the same time, Ukraine is obliged to comply with international law," Kollats emphasized.

The use of long-range weapons in this situation is out of the question, said the spokesman of the German Ministry of Defense.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on August 12, China urged not to allow an escalation of hostilities and to adhere to the principles of "cooling down" the situation due to the offensive of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast of the russian federation.

The Institute for the Study of War reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are advancing in the Kursk Oblast of russia.

On August 11, the Financial Times wrote that russian forces were unable to dislodge the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Kursk Oblast despite the arrival of reinforcements.
