In January-July, the Ministry of Defense received UAH 25 million for precious metals that were contained in recycled and destroyed military equipment.

This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

It is noted that 1,000 tons of scrap metal containing precious metals have been accumulated at the sites of military equipment destroyed during hostilities and in the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Thus, 100 kg of gold, 1,900 kg of silver and 25 kg of platinum were found in the scrap metal. Its processing is carried out by the Ministry of Defense only through specialized private processing enterprises.

According to Oleh Koval, the head of the Department for Alienation and Disposal of Surplus Military Property, in seven months of 2024, the Ministry of Defense received UAH 24.7 million from the processing of precious metals, and it is planned to receive at least UAH 18 million by the end of the year.

Funds from the sale of precious metals are distributed in accordance with the regulations of the National Bank of Ukraine: 80% for gold and platinum metals and 50% for silver are directed to the state budget, the remaining 20% and 50%, respectively, remain in the special fund of the Ministry of Defense and are used to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in July, the Ministry of Defense returned to the Armed Forces of Ukraine a significant amount of ammunition of various calibers, which had previously been transferred to enterprises for disposal as surplus.
