Russian leader vladimir putin went to Baku to divert attention from the "uncomfortable situation" in the Kursk Oblast.

This is the opinion of the analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Putin arrived in Baku on August 18 and held a meeting with the country's President, Ilham Aliyev. There they discussed the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as relations between Azerbaijan and russia.

"The timing of this visit deserves attention, given the situation in the Kursk Oblast, as well as the Kremlin's constant efforts to downplay the scale of the Ukrainian invasion," analysts say.

At that time, the russian state media wrote specifically about the trip to Azerbaijan, and not about the "uncomfortable situation" in the Kursk Oblast. In particular, they talk about possible diplomatic successes of the Kremlin.

"The Kremlin's reaction to Ukraine's invasion of the Kursk Oblast emphasized that the Kremlin's internal priorities are increasingly focused on the stability of the regime," ISW concluded.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukraine controls 92 settlements in the Kursk Oblast, which is more than 1,250 square kilometers of territory.

Meanwhile, russian propagandists and military bloggers complain that the destruction of the last of three bridges over the Seim River has cut off part of the russian occupation army in the southwestern Kursk Oblast.
