Drones attack russian airfield Engels, home to russian bombers

On the morning of Monday, August 26, the russian cities of Saratov and Engels were attacked by drones. In Engels, there is an airfield on which TU-95 strategic bombers are based; 11 of them took off at that time.

This was reported by the governor of the Saratov Oblast, Roman Busargin, and russian Telegram channels.

In Saratov, the tallest building - the 38th floor - was damaged after the UAV attack. According to him, "debris" fell on a house in the "Volga Sky" residential complex. The website of the residential complex states that it is not only the tallest building in the city but also "the tallest building in the Volga region (height 128.6 m)".

From the house to the military unit and the military airfield in Engels - 12 kilometers.

"Early in the morning, the UAV was eliminated by means of air defense. There are facts of debris falling into residential buildings in Saratov and Engels. All emergency services are working in an intensified mode," Busagin said.

Later, the Ministry of Defense of the russian federation stated that during the night, the air defense system allegedly shot down 20 Ukrainian aircraft-type UAVs.

In particular, nine drones were allegedly shot down over the territory of the Saratov Oblast, three over the territory of the Kursk Oblast, two each over the territories of the Belgorod, Bryansk, and Tula Oblasts, as well as one each over the territories of the Oryol and Ryazan Oblasts.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, explosions rocked the Savasleyka air base in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of russia overnight into August 14. NASA satellites recorded a fire on the territory of the airfield. The result of the attack by Ukrainian drones on the russian military airfield Savasleyka in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast was the destruction and damage of the MIG-31K/I aircraft and the IL-76 aircraft.
