Cabinet agrees to remove section of border with Belarus from exclusion zone

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft decree of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on removing the section of the border with Belarus from the exclusion zone.

This is stated in the notification of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Implementation of the act will allow the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine to ensure proper protection and defense of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border and compliance with its regime," the message reads.

It is noted that currently a 50-meter strip along the Ukrainian-Belarusian state border of Ukraine passes within the exclusion zone and the zone of unconditional (mandatory) resettlement and is owned by the Chornobyl Radiation-Ecological Biosphere Reserve.

The project of the act was developed with the aim of removing from the territory of the Chornobyl radiation and ecological biosphere reserve land plots along the state border of Ukraine so that the State Border Guard Service could fully ensure national security and defense and observe the regime of the state border of Ukraine along the demarcation line with Belarus.

In accordance with the Law "On the State Border of Ukraine", land plots within the border strip are provided for permanent use by units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine for the construction, arrangement and maintenance of engineering and technical and fortification structures.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in August, the spokesman of the State Border Guard Service Andrii Demchenko said that Belarus is concentrating its forces tens of kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

In April, the Cabinet of Ministers terminated the agreement with Belarus on the cooperation of border regions.

In February 2023, the Verkhovna Rada increased the width of the border strip along the state border with russia and Belarus to 2 km, this will be a mined territory.
