The cooling tower at the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was badly damaged by a fire last month. So, probably, it will have to be demolished.

This was stated by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Reuters reports.

"Until today, we couldn't get to that point, high up in the tower, so we can get a much better estimate of the damage. This large structure is unfit for future use, so it will probably be demolished at some point," Grossi said.

We will remind that on September 3, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi on the eve of his next visit to the russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 3, it became known that one of the power supply lines of the Zaporizhzhia NPP was damaged as a result of russian shelling.

It will be recalled that on August 18, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi announced the deterioration of the security situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

We also wrote that on August 11, the russians set a large-scale fire on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, accusing Ukraine of allegedly shelling the plant.
