Pentagon names new reason for banning Ukraine from striking deep into russia

The Pentagon announced another reason for the ban on the use of American weapons by Ukraine for long-range strikes deep into the territory of the aggressor country of russia. In particular, this is a limited number of ATACMS missiles.

This was stated by Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh during a briefing.

Thus, the representative of the US Department of Defense repeated yesterday's words of the representative of the White House regarding the significant remoteness of the locations of the russian aircraft.

"According to our intelligence estimates, 90% of russian planes that launch cruise bombs and missiles over Ukraine are located at airfields located 300 km from the territory controlled by Ukraine," she said.

According to Singh, these airfields "now take it beyond the ATACMS range."

"So, the ATACMS will not be able to reach those airfields, so the problems created by these cruise bombs, you know, will remain. And even if Ukraine were to use ATACMS against a very small percentage of the airfields that remain in range, we've seen how the russian military push back these airfields further," she said in her statement.

Therefore, the representative of the US Department of Defense emphasized, the impact of such strikes "will be very insignificant and will have very little strategic value."

When asked by journalists, what is the purpose of Ukraine's restrictions on long-range strikes against the russian federation with American weapons, whether it is because of the limited number of ATACMS or because of the "fear of escalation", Singh said that "a little bit of everything".

"There's a limited number of ATACMS. It's not - there's not a lot of these long-range capabilities. And of course, one thing we always evaluate is escalation, and that's something we've been very clear about from the beginning. So, it's a little bit of all those things tied together," she replied.

The Pentagon spokeswoman added that the Armed Forces of Ukraine "used these ATACMS very successfully to regain their territories in the south and east."

"And we believe that they have the capabilities and the ability to bring them together on the battlefield. You know, they have a really serious challenge in the East, and we continue to work with them to direct some of the firepower that they have into this direction," Singh said.

It will be recalled that the White House stated that ATACMS will not be able to hit russian military aircraft, as they are based outside the range of these missiles.

According to the media, Great Britain has been waiting for more than a month for the decision of the United States to give permission to Ukraine to hit russian territory with Storm Shadow missiles.

Meanwhile, the White House claims that they did not prohibit Ukraine from firing Storm Shadow missiles on the territory of the russian federation.
