Mongolia will have to explain why it did not arrest putin - ICC prosecutor

International Criminal Court, ICC, Mongolia, Karim Khan, arrest warrant for Putin

International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan said Mongolia will have to explain why it ignored a warrant and did not arrest russian dictator vladimir putin.

He said this in an interview with the BBC.

"The negotiation process at the court level is underway. The judges can give their recommendations in case there is a lack of cooperation, but I do not want to predict anything, because now this issue is being resolved between the judges and the government of Mongolia," the prosecutor explained.

He also answered a question about whether he believed the dictator would ever be brought to justice in The Hague.

"People laughed when the Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia sought arrest warrants for Karadzic and Mladic, not to mention Milošević, when the Special Court for Sierra Leone issued an arrest warrant for former President Charles Taylor, but as history has shown, these people who possessed in the past with great power in their country and region, ended up on the dock, - says Karim Khan. - There are examples that show that if someone does what he wants, using power, not limited by higher responsibility, his room for maneuver is narrowed."

We will remind, on September 2, putin arrived in Mongolia.

On September 3, a Mongolian government spokesman said that Mongolia has been unable to arrest russian dictator vladimir putin because it is dependent on imports of russian oil products.

In addition, in Mongolia, instead of putin, people with the Ukrainian flag were detained.
