Traffic between Kyiv subway stations Demiivska and Lybidska will resume from September 12 - Klitschko

Traffic between Kyiv subway stations Demiivska and Lybidska will resume from September 12.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Commissioning works on the renewed section of the tunnel between Demiivska and Lybidska stations have been completed. On Thursday, September 12, full train traffic will resume between Heroiv Dnipra and Teremky stations," he said.

Klitschko noted that the entire complex of works lasted 9 months.

During this time, the construction site was prepared, more than 200 cable networks were laid, a pit with a depth of more than 15 m was developed, the old part of the tunnel with a length of 27 meters was dismantled and a new one was built, the tunnel frame adjacent to the new section was strengthened on both sides (with a total length of more than 50 m), new tracks were laid, all engineering networks were restored, safe systems of train movement were established.

He added that the distillation tunnel between Demiivska and Lybidska is in difficult hydrogeological conditions, therefore, during the repair, all necessary works were carried out to waterproof the tunnel frame and chemically stabilize the soil around it.

According to Klitschko, the estimated cost of the entire complex of works amounted to UAH 383 million, which is UAH 62 million less than the initial cost.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, from December 8, 2023, trains were closed in Kyiv between the Demiivska and Teremky subway stations for the urgent repair of the distillation tunnel.

It was expected that the works would last about 6 months.

In March, Klitschko promised to restore traffic between the Demiivska and Lybidska subway stations at the end of the summer.
