49 Ukrainians were returned from russian captivity, among them soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the National Police, the State Border Guard Service, defenders of Azovstal, as well as civilians.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"49 Ukrainian men and women are at home. These are soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the National Police, the State Border Guard Service, as well as our civilians. In particular, Leniye Umyerova is a girl who was taken hostage by the Russians when she came to take care of her sick father. It was also possible to free some of the defenders of Azovstal. The Hero of Ukraine, military medic Viktor Ivchuk, is also at home," the head of state wrote.

The President thanked the team that ensures the release of prisoners and hostages from russian captivity, as well as the Ukrainian units that replenish the exchange fund for Ukraine.

He emphasized that all the soldiers who capture the occupiers, and all the services that neutralize russian saboteurs and collaborators, are bringing the release of Ukrainians from captivity closer.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in August, the head of the Defense Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, said that during future prisoner exchanges, priority will be given to the defenders of Azovstal, the seriously wounded, and women.

As of May 24, it was known that more than 400 Ukrainian women were in russian captivity.

Prior to that, the exchange of prisoners was carried out on August 24 of this year. Another 115 defenders returned home from russian captivity.
